The High Court in Abuja has adjourned the ruling on the bail application for former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and two others to December 10.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Bello with 16 counts, and he pleaded not guilty.
Alongside Bello, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu are facing prosecution as the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd defendants, respectively, in the EFCC‘s N110 billion fraud case.
During the proceedings, Bello, the primary defendant, firmly denied the allegations when they were presented before Justice Maryanne Anenih.
Following the defendants’ pleas, their counsel, Joseph Daudu, requested bail. However, Kemi Pinheiro, the EFCC’s counsel, opposed the application, claiming that it had expired in October.
The Defendant’s Counsel emphasised that the sole relevant application before the Court was the petition for bail in relation of the first defendant, filed on November 22.
Relying on all the paragraphs of the affidavit, he said that the bail application was also backed with a written address.
Justice Maryanne Anenih ruled that the defendants be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC has filed a suit against the former Kogi State governor, alleging his involvement in N110 billion fraud.
