A fire outbreak has caused extensive damage to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) office in Ikoyi, Lagos, destroying vital facilities, including studios and control rooms.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement by its Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the fire started late Wednesday night. It reportedly began in an air conditioning unit before spreading to other parts of the building.
Two buildings, housing the music and radio studios as well as control rooms, were severely affected.
“The fire affected three studios, roofs of the buildings suffered significant damages,” the statement reads.
“Several offices in the storey buildings were also affected. Properties lost to the inferno were significant,” LASEMA stated. Despite the extensive property loss, no injuries or casualties were reported.
Emergency responders, including LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Federal Fire Service, and LASAMBUS, worked together to extinguish the fire, which was fully contained by 10:45 p.m.
Back-to-back fire incidents have raised concerns about safety measures in public and commercial spaces across Lagos. Emergency agencies continue to urge residents to prioritise fire safety and promptly report any risks to prevent future disasters.
