The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, has admonished Nigerians to listen to people in government who fulfil their promises.
Wike said this on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, while inaugurating the construction of the Kabusa Takushara Access road in Abuja.
“Don’t listen to people who bring propaganda for nothing. Listen to people who have made promise to you and they are fulfilling the promise.”
Wike also advised Abuja residents not to listen to people who have never come to see them before.
“So, don’t listen to people who have never come to see you before. Has any minister come here before? Has any minister come here before? Is this your first time of seeing a minister? This same minister will come back. And so, when you see the minister come back to you, will you not listen to him? Will you listen to him?”
He suggested that in due time, it’s a matter of mutual exchange—”You do for me, I do for you.” He explained that the work they were involved in resembled a contract: if one party remembers the other, they should expect the same in return.
He emphasised that there was no hidden agenda or propaganda involved. He then pointed out that they had remembered him, and now it was his turn to remember them.
Nyesom Wike also directed the urgent rehabilitation of dilapidated public schools in Kabusa community. He warned that he could lose his job if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu saw the current condition of the schools in the area.
“They say this is a school, is it not? Is it a school? I’m not going to lie. I will not accept this. I will not accept this as a school for people to have quality education. And therefore, there will be immediate upgrading of this school to be what the school is supposed to be. I’m sure if Mr. President comes here and sees that this is a school our children are learning, I will lose my job and I don’t want to lose my job.”
