Award-winning Zimbabwean singer Selmor Mtukudzi is set to launch her new album “Dehwe reNzou” at the Harare Showgrounds on Friday, January 31.
The album which is the sixth in her illustrious career is a fusion of Afro-jazz and traditional Zimbabwean sounds like Katekwe and Jit over 11 tracks.
Entirely produced by Steve Dyer and MacDee, the project comes just a week after ‘Mandidzimbira’, her tribute to her late father, Oliver Mtukudzi.
The new album also features appearances from Picky Kasamba, Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure, all members of her father’s Black Spirits Band.
According to Selmor’s publicist, Reginald Chapfunga, “Picky Kasamba did backing vocals and percussion while Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure played bass and drums respectively. Legendary South African musician Vusi Mahlasela, popularly known as ‘The Voice’, also features on one of the tracks.”
The album launch will guest veteran Zimbabwean singer, Alick Macheso on the line-up.
“Macheso brings in sungura flare to Selmor Mtukudzi’s katekwe and in the last two months roped in Selmor Mtukudzi as a supporting act during his tours. That fatherly gesture significantly helped to take Selmor’s music to the people.” Chapfunga says.
