The amaXhosa Kingdom is in shock after the fatal shooting of four family members, including a traditional leader, in Mente Village, Willowvale in South Africa, on Wednesday night.
The incident has triggered widespread fear and calls for urgent action against rising gun violence in the region.
Nkosi Zanenkululo Salakuphathwa, Ebhotwe’s traditional leader, confirmed the killings alongside Nkosi Ndabele Mtoto, spokesperson for AmaXhosa King Ahlengene Sigcawu. Both expressed outrage at the brutal attack.
“This is shocking. This is sad and scary. We urge the police to act swiftly and arrest the gunmen before they strike again,” said Salakuphathwa.
The tragic event comes just five days after a march in Willowvale aimed at addressing escalating gun violence.
Salakuphathwa noted with concern that such violence, previously confined to the town centre, is now spreading to rural areas.
