The Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, has encouraged members of the Ghana Police Service to maintain high standards of professionalism and fairness as they oversee the country’s general election today, December 7, 2024.
His message, addressed to all officers, emphasised the critical role of the police in ensuring peace and order during the electoral process.
In his statement, the IGP praised the dedication of officers who have worked tirelessly to uphold stability and security across the nation. He reminded them of the responsibility they bear in protecting Ghana’s democratic values, urging them to remain impartial and resolute in their duties.
“By our nationality, we are brothers and sisters, and therefore we mean well for our beloved country because of our children and grandchildren who are the future generations,” Dampare said, stressing the unity and shared purpose of Ghanaians in building a better future.
The IGP called on the officers to earn the trust of both citizens and the international community by ensuring a smooth and fair election process.
“The eyes of the world are on us, and Ghanaians look up to us to sustain the peace and security of the country, and we should not fail them,” he stated.
He also reassured officers that the leadership of the Police Service stands firmly behind them as they carry out their duties.
“Always remember that we have your back,” he affirmed, expressing confidence in the capacity and commitment of the police force.
With this charge, the IGP has set the tone for the day’s operations, urging all officers to rise to the occasion and demonstrate their dedication to preserving the nation’s peace and security.
