Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike said his unpleasant first-hand experience travelling the Pai-Gubani route earlier in the year fuelled his desire to ensure its reconstruction.
Wike, speaking at the flag-off of the construction of the 33-kilometre road, assured the people that the road would be available for their benefit by June 2025.
“Some few months ago, when we came here and on our way to that place, I was asking, what happened here? Why is there no road? How do you get to that area? The people going to that area must pass through this place. I would like to say that we will not allow it, and we will come and flag off this road.” He said.
Noting the slow pace of development the FCT has experienced since its creation in 1976, Wike said President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda will unleash a wave of infrastructural development across the territory.
“Ordinarily, we would have had not only one city, we would have had more than two or three cities, to discourage people from moving out to congest the main city. But I hope you understand that with his Renewed Hope Agenda, what the President is doing to us is to connect the satellite town to the main city so that you don’t have to say, let me go and stay in the city”.
He thanked members of the National Assembly for expediting the approval of funding for the budget and assured them that the executive would repay their support by ensuring the timely completion of the project.
“Be assured that under Mr President’s tenure, we will complete our promises and every project we have started. We will not abandon any project at all. I use this opportunity to thank members of the National Assembly, the Senate and the House for ensuring the projects are well-funded in the budget.”
