Ademola Adeyemi-Bero has been appointed Nigeria’s Governor for the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and will also serve as Chairman of the OPEC Board of Governors for the year 2025.
The announcement was made by Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Heineken Lokpobiri, following the confirmation of Adeyemi-Bero’s appointment at the 189th OPEC Conference.
In a statement released by his media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, Lokpobiri celebrated the appointment as a recognition of Nigeria’s significant contributions to the global oil sector. He noted that this role offers Nigeria a strategic opportunity to advocate for balanced energy policies that align with the interests of oil producers, consumers, and the global economy.
Adeyemi-Bero’s elevation follows his prior confirmation as Nigeria’s OPEC Governor for 2025. The minister also expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ambassador Gabriel Aduda, the outgoing Nigerian OPEC Governor, for his remarkable service. Lokpobiri highlighted Aduda’s efforts in promoting Nigeria’s interests within OPEC and strengthening the nation’s presence in international energy discussions.
In related developments, OPEC appointed Adeeb Al-Aama as Saudi Arabia’s OPEC Governor and Alternate Chairman of the Board of Governors for 2025.
The OPEC Conference, attended by representatives from member nations, addressed key issues, including reports from the Secretary-General and the Economic Commission Board (ECB), while deliberating on internal organisational matters.
Additionally, the Conference extended the term of His Excellency Haitham Al Ghais as OPEC Secretary-General for another three years, effective August 1, 2025. Member countries praised his exceptional leadership and commended the Secretariat’s dedication to achieving OPEC’s objectives.
