Zimbabwe is about to reach an important technology milestone as it prepares to reveal its first humanoid robot at the University of Zimbabwe.
The reveal is scheduled to take place in the next few hours, marking a major step forward in the country’s use of advanced technology.
The robot, named Sophia, possesses features resembling those of a human, including the ability to communicate, navigate, and perform movements with remarkable precision.
These capabilities are powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI) and computer vision technologies.
Sophia, which embodies female characteristics, was developed through a collaboration between Hanson Robotics and a team of researchers specialising in AI and computing at the University of Zimbabwe.
This development represents an important step in showcasing the potential of AI-driven solutions in Zimbabwe, with applications ranging from education and healthcare to industrial automation and beyond.
