The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has launched an investigation into an alleged case of crude oil theft involving a barge, two lorries, and a suspect handed over by the Nigerian Navy‘s NNS Delta on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
The handover, conducted in Warri, was led by Lieutenant Commander E.O. Adeola on behalf of the Commander of NNS Delta. According to Adeola, the suspect, Samson Uki, was apprehended alongside the barge Oghenekome and two lorries, reportedly carrying an unspecified amount of suspected crude oil. The interception took place at the NIWA jetty while the oil was being transferred from the barge into the lorries. Preliminary findings indicated that the operation lacked the necessary licence.
Usman Abdullahi Nuhu, an Assistant Superintendent with the EFCC, accepted custody of the suspect, barge, and lorries on behalf of the Commission. Nuhu confirmed that the EFCC would carry out further investigations and consider prosecution pending the outcome of their inquiries.
