The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for the 2023 elections in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has announced his resignation from the party.
In a letter dated December 8, 2024 and addressed to the state chairman of the party, Eradiri disclosed his decision to step down, citing challenges and internal intrigues within the party’s leadership as key reasons.
He explained that his resignation was driven by the need to pursue his political aspirations on a platform better equipped to deliver the leadership Bayelsa State deserves.
“I wish to formally notify the party of my withdrawal as a member of the Labour Party,” the letter stated. “I have come to this decision to advance my political career with a platform that is ready and prepared to provide the kind of leadership that Bayelsa State earnestly deserves.”
Eradiri expressed gratitude to party members who supported his vision for a better Bayelsa and entrusted him with the role of governorship candidate. However, he lamented that “we couldn’t scale through the intrigues and challenges implanted in the party leadership.”
Reflecting on his time with the party, Eradiri noted: “It was a great experience working together politically and traversing the nooks and crannies of the state in the quest for leadership. I wish the party and its leaders well in their future endeavours.”
