Alexander Sorloth’s second-half header secured Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Getafe on Sunday, extending their remarkable winning streak to 11 matches across all competitions.
Sorloth, coming off the bench, scored his seventh league goal of the season in the 69th minute, connecting with Nahuel Molina’s pinpoint cross.
Diego Simeone’s side dominated the first half but failed to capitalise on their chances. Samuel Lino missed two golden opportunities, while Rodrigo De Paul and Julian Alvarez were also denied by Getafe goalkeeper David Soria.
“Until the last day, we’ll go game by game,” Simeone told reporters, deflecting questions about a title push. He praised his squad’s depth, noting the contributions of substitutes like Sorloth and Molina.
The win keeps Atletico a point ahead of Real Madrid, who were held to a 0-0 draw at Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. Meanwhile, Getafe remain in the lower half of the table despite showing resilience late in the match.
