Crystal Palace secured their first win over rivals Brighton since 2021 with a convincing 3-1 victory on Sunday, pulling four points clear of the relegation zone. Ismaila Sarr was the standout performer, assisting Trevoh Chalobah for the opener before scoring twice to end Palace’s seven-game winless streak against the Seagulls. Brighton, who could have climbed to fifth, extended their winless run to four matches and now sit ninth.
Chelsea loanee Chalobah smashed home Palace’s first from Sarr’s corner, before the Senegalese winger doubled the lead with a powerful header from Tyrick Mitchell’s cross.
Brighton responded with second-half pressure, but Julio Enciso and Lewis Dunk were both denied by Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson. Sarr sealed the win late on, coolly finishing from Eddie Nketiah’s headed pass.
Marc Guehi’s unfortunate own goal in the dying moments was the only blemish on a stellar Palace performance, which lifted them to 15th and continued their unbeaten run to five matches.
