Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has revealed he is ready for a new challenge after a long career at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old, who was omitted from last weekend’s derby against Manchester City, opened up in an interview on Tuesday about his future.
Rashford, who has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances since his debut in 2016, admitted he feels it’s time to take the “next steps” in his career.
“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge,” Rashford told journalist Henry Winter in an interview shared on social media. “When I leave, it’s going to be no hard feelings. You won’t hear me saying anything negative about Manchester United.”
The England international has faced a dip in form over the last 18 months, resulting in him being dropped from Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros. He also described his omission from the Manchester derby by new United coach Ruben Amorim as disheartening.
“It’s disappointing,” Rashford admitted. “But as I’ve got older, I can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it? Or do my best the next time I’m available.”
Despite Rashford’s absence, United have shown improvement under Amorim. After United’s 2-1 win over City, Amorim clarified that Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho’s omissions were “not a disciplinary thing”.
“Next game, new life, and they are fighting for the places,” Amorim said. “For me, what’s important is their performance in training, in games, the way they dress, eat, and push their team-mates.”
Amorim is expected to address Rashford’s comments during Wednesday’s press conference ahead of Manchester United’s League Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham.
