The European Commission has added Air Tanzania to the EU Air Safety List, effectively banning the airline from operating within European Union airspace.
This move follows the denial of its Third Country Operator (TCO) authorisation by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) due to significant safety deficiencies.
The EU Air Safety List comprises airlines failing to meet international safety standards. EU Commissioner Tzitzikostas stressed the importance of passenger safety, stating:
“The inclusion of Air Tanzania in the EU Air Safety List demonstrates our steadfast commitment to the highest safety standards. We urge the airline to address these deficiencies swiftly, and we stand ready to assist Tanzanian authorities in improving safety compliance.”
Air Tanzania now joins several African airlines prohibited from EU airspace, including Congo Airways, Sudan Airways, and Kenyan carriers Silverstone Air Services and Skyward Express, reflecting the EU’s stringent stance on global aviation safety.
