French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Mayotte on Thursday to assess the destruction caused by Cyclone Chido, which has left hundreds feared dead and displaced thousands.
Declared an “exceptional natural disaster” by Paris, the cyclone has ravaged the French territory, with officials warning the death toll could rise significantly. Macron brought aid supplies, pledged reconstruction plans, and met with victims, rescue teams, and local authorities.
Efforts continue to deliver food, water, and medical aid to the storm-stricken region, France’s poorest, as rescue workers race to find survivors amidst extensive damage.
