The Army Council of Nigeria has approved the promotion of 108 senior officers to the ranks of Major-General and Brigadier-General.
A statement released on Friday by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu detailed that the list comprises 35 Brigadier Generals who have been elevated to Major-Generals and 73 Colonels who have been promoted to Brigadier-Generals.
Prominent names include Brig-Gen. Ibikunle Ajose, the acting General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander of Sector 2 in the North West Operation Fasan Yamma, and Brig-Gen. U.G. Ogeleka, the Nigerian Army Space Command Commander, among others.
Those being elevated to the Major-General rank feature Brig-Gen. B.P. Koughna, the Deputy Chief of Military Affairs at Army Headquarters in the Department of Civil-Military Affairs; Brig-Gen. I. Otu from the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre; Brig-Gen. A.O. Adegbite from the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport; and Brig-Gen. S.A. Jimoh, the Deputy Director of the Tender Board within the Department of Procurement.
For the rank of Brigadier-General, notable appointments include Col. S.M. Iliya, the Commander of the 43 Engineers Brigade; Col. O. Igwe, the Commander of the 78 Supply and Transport; and Col. N.S. Onuchukwu, the Chief Medical Director of the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital, among others.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede urged the newly promoted officers to justify their promotions, exemplify leadership and encourage them to devise innovative strategies to address the nation’s current security issues.
