Kano State is expected to generate over twenty billion naira in revenue every quarter of 2025.
This was mentioned in a statement released in Kaduna on Saturday by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson.
“It is important to remember that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed a new management structure and removed the revenue service’s immediate prior chairman.
“The agency’s performance in the third and fourth quarters of 2024 has improved dramatically as a result of this choice.
“The governor will commission a new tax-collecting mechanism to guarantee successful revenue generation measures.
“It is anticipated that this model will significantly boost revenue collection for the fiscal year 2025, allowing the administration to carry out its campaign pledges in several crucial development areas, the statement read.
As part of its significant improvements in tax administration, the Kano State Government, led by Governor Yusuf, plans to start prosecuting all tax defaulters in 2025.
The disclosure was made by Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) Executive Chairman Dr. Zaid Abubakar, who made it in a presentation to the governor at the current High-Level Retreat for high-ranking government officials, the statement said.
Dr Zaid Abubakar stressed that the goal of the reform is to ensure that tax laws are followed and to increase the effectiveness of tax collection, not to raise taxes.
