Kwara State Police Command has disclosed that Jimoh Abdulquadri, a 35-year-old male, passed away while in police custody.
On December 19, 2024, police officers reportedly arrested Abdulquadri, who passed away in the wee hours of Friday.
The deceased was detained after it was discovered that he supposedly owed N220,000 to Peter.
In their detention, Abdulquadri was brutalised by police officers at the state police command headquarters, according to the deceased’s family.
Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, responded on Sunday by ordering the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) to assume immediate control of the probe.
In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed that the IGP also paid a visit to the deceased’s family in Kwara State, where he pledged to look into the deceased’s circumstances.
“On behalf of the family, Alhaji Sadiq Atiku Fulani, the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, received the IGP. Throughout the discussion, the IGP conveyed his most sympathies and gave the family his word that every effort would be made to find the cause of the unfortunate event.
