The Lagos State Government has directed all charity organisers to engage with its Safety Commission to prevent stampedes and ensure public safety.
The Director-General of the Lagos State Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, stressed the need for safety compliance, citing rushing, negligence, and poor crowd control as causes of recent stampedes during food distributions. Events involving over 250 people must now register with the commission.
Gbenga Omotosho, the Commissioner for Information, highlighted the necessity of these measures following incidents in Oyo, Abuja, Anambra, and a stage collapse at Sol Beach, Victoria Island.
He warned organisers to adhere to safety regulations, emphasising that negligence could lead to severe consequences.
