The former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola; the CEO of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat; and the principal of Islamic High School, Abdullahi Fasasi, were ordered to be remanded to the Agodi Correctional Centre by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Tuesday.
The remand order came after their arraignment about the horrific stampede that killed 35 children and injured six others at a Christmas funfair held at Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, last week.
Following the suspects’ escort to court under strict security, Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi issued the order.
There are four charges against the defendants. The acts violated Section 324 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000, the police prosecutor said.
According to the prosecution, the three were involved in the sequence of events that resulted in the stampede that made the Christmas celebration tragic.
The accused were ordered to be remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre by Chief Magistrate Ogunkanmi while the Oyo State Director of Public Prosecutions provided legal counsel.
Law enforcement personnel heavily guarded the accused as they were led to and from the court premises during the highly publicised court sessions.
More to come.
