The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it has opened applications for recruitment into various positions within its Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres for the 2025 intake.
This recruitment initiative follows a recent approval for the hiring of 3,927 officers, aimed at boosting trade facilitation and supporting Nigeria’s economic recovery.
In its announcement, the NCS cautioned applicants to beware of fraudsters who may attempt to exploit the recruitment process for personal gain.
“Our recruitment process is completely FREE and FAIR. We DO NOT charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process. If anyone demands payment, they are scammers,” the NCS warned.
Applicants must meet the following basic criteria to be eligible – Be a Nigerian citizen by birth, possess a valid National Identification Number (NIN) and have no criminal record or ongoing investigations.
The academic requirements vary by cadre; Superintendent Cadre: A university degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent from a recognized institution, along with an NYSC discharge certificate or exemption certificate.
For the Inspectorate Cadre a National Diploma (ND) or Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) from an approved institution is required. While for the Customs Assistant Cadre a minimum of O’Level (WAEC or NECO).
Additionally, all applicants must be physically and mentally fit and must submit evidence of medical fitness from a government-approved hospital.
The recruitment process opened on December 27, 2024, and will close on January 2, 2025. Interested applicants can apply via the official recruitment portal: https://recruitment.customs.gov.ng.
This recruitment is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigeria Customs Service, a key agency in Nigeria’s economic recovery plans. The decision to recruit more officers was announced during the 61st quarterly board meeting of the NCS, which took place on December 18, 2024, at the Customs House in Maitama, Abuja.
This initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2025 budget, which includes ambitious targets for revenue generation, including N35 trillion projected in revenue. The NCS has already contributed over N5 trillion to government revenue by November 2024.
In a related development, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) also announced new recruitments, further strengthening Nigeria’s revenue-generating agencies as part of the administration’s broader economic strategy.
