The Lagos State Government has committed to completing the Mile 2 and Marina transport interchange hubs within the next 13 months. This major development is part of the government’s effort to improve Lagos’ transport network and reduce commuter congestion through seamless integration of various transportation modes.
Construction of the hubs, which began in July 2024, is integral to the Lagos Strategic Transport Masterplan (STMP). The STMP aims to create a well-connected network linking road, rail, water, and non-motorised transport systems. These interchange hubs will serve as vital transfer points, offering commuters smooth transitions between different transport options.
LAMATA Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, reaffirmed the completion timeline during a recent inspection, emphasising that the hubs align with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to make public transportation the preferred mode of commuting for Lagosians. Akinajo assured that all project stakeholders are working collaboratively to ensure the hubs are completed on schedule.
The project is funded through a credit from the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), along with counterpart funds from the Lagos State Government. AFD’s Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Xavier Muron, highlighted that these hubs will address critical first- and last-mile connectivity issues, easing congestion and enhancing the commuter experience in Lagos.
