Barcelona’s Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been granted provisional permission to play by Spain’s sports council (CSD), pending a final decision in the club’s ongoing legal battle with La Liga and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).
The two players were initially given temporary licenses when they joined Barcelona in the summer, but the club failed to register them before the year’s end due to financial restrictions. The CSD’s ruling temporarily overturns the RFEF’s decision to cancel their licenses, allowing the duo to feature in upcoming matches.
“This measure suspends the cancellation of the players’ licenses and maintains their validity until the appeal is resolved,” the CSD stated.
Although Olmo and Victor will miss Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Bilbao in Saudi Arabia, they could return for the final, should Barca advance, and future matches.
Barcelona’s financial woes delayed their registration of the players, despite the club selling VIP boxes for their under-construction Spotify Camp Nou stadium to meet La Liga’s financial fair play rules. However, the deal’s paperwork was submitted three days after La Liga’s deadline, sparking the current dispute.
The CSD’s temporary ruling allows Olmo and Victor to play while the council deliberates on whether Barcelona’s case warrants a permanent license renewal.
