Aba Power Limited Electric, an electricity distribution company in Abia State, has raised its electricity tariffs by over 50%, effective January 1, 2025. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) approved the increase after the company’s application on December 11, 2024.
Under the new structure, Band A and B feeders will pay between N219.70 and N241.45 per kilowatt-hour, up from N99/kWh. Band C feeders will pay between N145 and N205/kWh.
Aba Power cited rising operational costs due to Nigeria’s challenging macroeconomic conditions as the reason for the hike.
While the company claims the adjustment is necessary to maintain service quality, customers expressed concerns over the financial strain due to rising inflation and economic instability.
