US aviation giant Boeing has told BBC News it is contributing $1 million (£812,600) to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration fund. Google has confirmed a similar donation, joining other major US firms supporting the event.
The list of contributors includes oil giant Chevron and tech companies Meta, Amazon, and Uber. Trump’s inauguration, marking the start of his second term, is set for January 20.
Boeing stated: “We are pleased to continue our bipartisan tradition of supporting US Presidential Inaugural Committees,” noting similar contributions to the past three inaugurations.
The aviation company, recovering from a safety crisis and last year’s strike losses, is also building the next Air Force One jets, set to debut as early as next year.
During Trump’s first term, he forced Boeing to renegotiate the contract for the presidential aircraft, criticising its original cost.
Google, following donations from Meta and Amazon, announced it will livestream the event globally on YouTube and highlight it on its homepage.
Car manufacturers Ford, General Motors, and Toyota have also each donated $1 million. Chevron confirmed its support but did not disclose the amount, stating, “Chevron has a long tradition of celebrating democracy by supporting inaugural committees of both parties.”
