Pep Guardiola stated on Monday that three consecutive victories had improved the atmosphere at Manchester City, but he was reticent about possible additions to bolster his injury-plagued team in January.
Before their 2-0 victory at Leicester on December 29, Premier League champions City had only won one of 13 games across all competitions.
They then defeated fourth-tier Salford 8-0 in the FA Cup third round last weekend, and they also thrashed West Ham 4-1 in Julen Lopetegui’s penultimate match as manager of the London side.
On the eve of Tuesday’s league game against Brentford, Guardiola stated, “We’ve won three, which helps us. Before, it was impossible to win one.”
“But in actuality, we defeated a team in the most recent match based on the Premier League and League Two standings and the badges of both teams, and we should have won for several reasons.
“We did a really good job, but we still need to wait to find out who we are. The atmosphere is much better, yet you are aware of who we are.
“We have an incredibly challenging game (against Brentford). A lot of issues are being created by Thomas (Frank) and his group. Their team is just amazing,” he added.
Brentford lost 1-0 to second-tier Plymouth at home on Saturday, eliminating them from the FA Cup. However, they have the second-best home record in the Premier League, behind champions Liverpool.
Just two points separate City from fourth-place Chelsea in the league standings, which will determine whether City plays in the Champions League next season.
Guardiola stated that there was no news on the status of Kyle Walker, the captain, who has stated that he would like to play overseas.
Since City’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in mid-December, the 34-year-old England right-back has not scored a goal.
Walker’s inclusion in Guardiola’s team for Tuesday’s game in London will be decided later on Monday.
In response to enquiries concerning rumours that City and Lens had reached an agreement on a price for defender Abdukodir Khusanov, he remained silent.
“There was no announcement from the club,” he claimed. “I am not sure.”
