A coordinated operation against Lakurawa terrorists in Sokoto State’s Gudu Local Government Area has resulted in the deaths of five troops.
This was revealed Thursday in a statement by Lt Col Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator, Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to him, the raid sparked a fierce gunfight in which members of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade also killed six terrorists.
The statement said, “Despite this success, the operation came at a heavy cost, as five brave soldiers tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.”
Following the raid, troops found four AK-47 rifles, one box of 12.7mm ammo, and 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
In addition, the military urged the public to inform security services of any suspicious activity linked to terrorism or security concerns in Gudu Local Government Area and the adjacent areas and to stay watchful and aware in their communities.
The statement asserts that public cooperation is crucial to preserving community harmony and saving lives.
