The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday appointed Miller Gajere Dantawaye as the substantive Commissioner of Police at Kogi State Command.
Additionally, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin’s appointment as Edo State‘s substantive Commissioner of Police was confirmed by the Commission.
The PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, hinted in a statement announcing the appointments that the two states’ commissioners of police are about to retire.
On January 22, 2025, Kogi’s Commissioner of Police, CP Chukwuka Bertrand Onuoha, is anticipated to leave the force, and on January 25, 2025, CP Peter Umoru is scheduled to retire.
The new Commissioner for Kogi, CP Dantawaye, was previously the Area Commander for Karewa Adamawa State Police Command, the AC Operations for FCT Police Command, the AC Field Studies for Police Academy Wudil Kano, and the AC CID for Oyo State Police Command.
In addition, he served as the Area Commander of Area “H” Ogudu in Lagos State, the DC Operations of Yobe State Police Command in Damaturu, the DC Operations of Edo State Police Command in Benin, and later the CP Information Technology (IT) at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
CP Betty Enekpen Otimenyin began her career in Bauchi State Command and has held the position of DPO in several divisions within Edo and Plateau Commands.
She held positions as Area Commander in Eleme Rivers State, Mbaitoilo in Imo State, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Administration in Kebbi State and Nigeria Port Authority Western Port, Lagos State.
Otimenyin served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration for Zone 5 in Benin, Edo State, and Zone 13 in Dunokuofia, Anambra State. She is currently the Force Intelligence Department’s (FID) Abuja Commissioner of Police Administration.
DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), the Commission’s chairman, has urged the newly appointed State Command Commissioners to be devoted to serving their country.
DIG Argungu advised them to get settled into their responsibilities as soon as possible and make sure that the security situation in the two states is improved.
According to him, the Commission will keep an eye on their performance and will motivate them to execute to the best of their abilities.
Ani said that in a letter signed by the Commission’s secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the approval for the appointment of the two Commissioners has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for execution.
