Hours after a jury found CNN guilty of defaming a US Navy veteran, the network settled a lawsuit on Friday for a 2021 segment on evacuations in Afghanistan.
The trial took place in Bay County, Florida, and lasted two weeks.
The veteran Zachary Young was given $5 million in compensatory damages by a jury.
As the punitive damages phase began after the verdict, the two parties settled. The settlement’s specifics were not disclosed to the public.
In a statement, a CNN spokesperson said, “We are proud of our journalists and are 100% committed to strong, fearless, and fair-minded reporting at CNN, though we will of course take what useful lessons we can from this case.”
