Mrs. Beatrice Ekweremadu, wife of former Deputy Senate President Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has returned to Nigeria following her release from a UK prison.
Beatrice, who had been sentenced to five years in the UK, arrived in the country on Tuesday.
Sources informed News Central that celebrations are currently underway at her family home in the Mpu community of Aninri Local Government Area, Enugu State.
In March 2023, Senator Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and a doctor were convicted of organ trafficking by a UK court.
Following a six-week trial at the Old Bailey, they were found guilty of facilitating the travel of a young man to Britain with the intention of exploiting him.
“Yes, she’s released now. She is currently in Nigeria,” a former aide, who requested anonymity, confirmed.
Based on the UK court’s pronouncement, Beatrice had been sentenced to four years and six months in prison. However, it is unclear at this time whether she was granted a pardon in the European country.
