The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted a mix of hazy and cloudy conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday.
According to NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Sunday, moderate dust haze is expected on Monday, with horizontal visibility ranging between 2km and 5km in the northern cities.
Additionally, localized visibility of 1,000 meters or less is anticipated in parts of Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Yobe, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States throughout the forecast period.
The North Central region will also experience moderate dust haze, with visibility between 2km and 5km, while parts of Niger State may see visibility drop to 1,000 meters or less.
In the South, hazy skies with scattered clouds are expected over the inland and coastal cities in the morning, with thunderstorms likely later in the day over Ondo, Edo, Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta, and Cross River States.
By Tuesday, NiMet forecasts that moderate dust haze will persist in the northern and North Central regions, with similar conditions expected over parts of Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Ebonyi, and Enugu States.
Other inland states in the South will experience hazy skies with patches of clouds.
“Strong winds may precede the rains in areas where thunderstorms are likely to occur. The public should take adequate precaution and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities,” NiMet warned.
The agency also advised airline operators “to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.”
With dust particles remaining in suspension, NiMet urged the public to take necessary precautions.
“People with asthmatic health conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather conditions,” NiMet stated.
