Liverpool’s pursuit of the Premier League title takes them to Manchester City on Sunday, but two recent stumbles have reignited the title race.
Arne Slot’s men seemed to be cruising toward a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title, but consecutive 2-2 draws against Everton and Aston Villa have allowed Arsenal to keep their hopes alive. The Gunners could move within five points of Liverpool if they defeat struggling West Ham at the Emirates on Saturday.
At the same time, Manchester City are reeling from a shocking Champions League exit at the hands of Real Madrid, crashing out before the last 16 for the first time since the 2012/13 season.
Pep Guardiola’s side may also be without Erling Haaland, who was sidelined with an injury during the midweek defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, they reminded everyone of their strength with a commanding 4-0 win over Newcastle last weekend.
Despite their recent setbacks, Liverpool remain in pole position for the title. However, Slot is well aware of the challenge ahead at the Etihad.

“They’ve had maybe one or two months in the seven or eight years he’s (Guardiola) there now that weren’t the best, maybe partly because of injuries as well,” said Slot.
“Injuries come back, they’ve signed three or four players, I can see them coming back already if you look at the result against Newcastle.”
Arsenal will look to turn up the pressure by winning their game against West Ham, though Mikel Arteta’s side will have to cope without a recognised striker for the remainder of the season.
The Gunners have taken 23 points from a possible 27 in their last nine league games, keeping them firmly in the mix.
“If we constantly look at Arsenal or what other teams are doing, that would not help us,” Slot added.
“We already know how difficult it is to go to the Etihad, so we don’t need Arsenal to get involved in that even more.”
With the Premier League title race heating up and City desperate for points in the top-four battle, Sunday’s showdown could be pivotal in shaping the season’s outcome.
