Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has dismissed suggestions that Mauricio Pochettino’s desire to return to Spurs is a sign of disrespect, saying he holds no issue with the former boss’s aspirations.
Pochettino, who led Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final, recently expressed his wish to manage the club again one day. The Argentine, currently coaching the United States men’s national team, has also had stints with Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.
When asked about Pochettino’s remarks ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Thursday, Postecoglou played down any controversy.
“If Mauricio wants to come back one day, I hope it happens for him,” the Australian coach said. “We all have dreams and aspirations.
“You’re suggesting he’s trying to put pressure on me? Well, I don’t feel disrespected. If you ask Mauricio directly, you’d get a clear answer as to what his intent was.
“There’s nothing for me to be consumed with. I’m more focused on making sure we try to win tomorrow night.”

Postecoglou’s position has come under increased scrutiny following Spurs’ 2-0 defeat to Fulham on March 16—their 15th Premier League loss of the season. The result fuelled speculation over his future, particularly during the international break.
However, the 59-year-old insisted he is unfazed by the rumours. “I know what my responsibilities are, and if the club decides to go in a different direction, there are some outstanding candidates for the job,” he said.
“And you know what? Maybe someone will think, ‘Ange Postecoglou is not a bad coach, maybe we’ll take a punt on him.’
“Mate, it doesn’t rock my world. It doesn’t consume me. I am here, I am passionate about what we’re doing. I was brought in to change the way the club plays, rejuvenate the squad, and bring success. That is what I’ll keep doing.”
Spurs will look to get back to winning ways when they take on Pochettino’s former side, Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge.
