Tragedy struck on Tuesday night as a fire ravaged a residential building at 74 Lagos Street, Obohia Road, Aba, Abia State, leaving tenants devastated but fortunately causing no casualties.
The inferno broke out while residents were asleep, quickly engulfing the entire storey building and reducing their belongings to ashes. Although the official cause of the fire is yet to be determined, some residents attributed it to an electrical spark in one of the rooms.

Eyewitnesses said local youths and sympathisers played a crucial role in preventing the fire from spreading to nearby homes and shops.
Calling the incident a major disaster, affected tenants appealed to the Abia State government for urgent assistance.
Efforts to reach Abia State Chief Fire Officer, Nnanna Arua, for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
