Authorities in Uganda on Wednesday announced that 10 frontline health workers have contracted the coronavirus (COVID-19).
The health ministry, in a statement, also confirmed that 75 new cases were recorded in 24 hours, bringing the total infections in the country to 3,112.
According to the ministry, of the 75 cases, 10 are health workers from Kampala while the 65 are contacts and alerts.
From the remaining 65, Kampala had 30 cases while Buikwe, Kikuube and Buvuma had 23, six and three cases respectively. Jinja, Mukono and Wakiso registered one case each.
The cases were confirmed from the 4,133 samples tests done on September 1.
The ministry revealed that 10 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for the virus, were denied entry into the country. Of the 10, seven were Kenyans, two Tanzanians and a Congolese.
To date, Uganda has carried out 385,882. So far, 1,528 Ugandans have recovered from the virus.
The country has so far recorded 75 deaths. The first death was announced in July – a 34 year old Ugandan female.
The deceased, who showed COVID like signs and symptoms: fever, dry cough, headache and difficulty in breathing, died July 21 and was buried July 23.
