The Egyptian General Intelligence Service and the leadership of the Islamic Hamas movement are set to hold talks at the Gaza Strip, reports said on Thursday.
A delegation from the Egyptian GIS was said to have arrived at the Gaza on Thursday through the Israeli-controlled Beit Hanoun (Erez) crossing point between northern Gaza Strip and Israel.
The Egyptian delegation will discuss with Hamas leaders the implementation of the recent calm understanding that Egypt brokered between Hamas and Israel in the Gaza Strip.
The calm understanding which was reached last month ended more than two weeks of growing tension between the two sides and prevented a large-scale military confrontation between them.
The delegation will discuss with Hamas the measures of relaxing the Israeli blockade, which has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for more than 13 years, reports said.
The delegation arrived in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday and held talks with the Palestinian Authority’s officials over the political and health situation in the Palestinian territories.
