Ivorian forward Nicolas Pepe scored for his Arsenal team in their 2-1 win over Sheffield United at the Emirates Stadium in London.
The 25-year-old who is Arsenal’s record-signing since joining in August 2019 from Lille for £79 million, came off the bench in the 58th minute as replacement for Eddie Nketiah.
But then found the back of the net in the 64th minute with a neat left-footed finish after cutting in from the far-right with a darting run to double Arsenal’s lead (2-0).
19 passes were involved in the build-up to Pepe’s goal – his first of the season.
Busayo Saka had scored for the Gunners three minutes earlier, heading in a Hector Bellerin cross at the far-post after some quick passing in the box between Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – the Arsenal captain from Gabon and Egypt’s Mohammed Elneny.
But in the 83rd minute, David McGoldrick shaped open some space to pull one back for Sheffield United with a shot from 20-yards and registered their first league goal of the season.
The victory for Pepe and Arsenal is their third from four league matches this season, having only lost to Champions Liverpool, and their next fixture – an away trip to face Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez and his Manchester City side.
