Amapiano star, Olpha ‘Gee six five’ Selepe was confirmed dead on Wednesday 9th 2020.
The 65-year-old rising star and academic barely had her swing at fame as her new hit single ‘Obani Labantu’ swept across Manzi. Unfortunately this was short-lived.
News of her death was confirmed by her niece, Sbu Mpungose who made the confirmation in the early hours of Wednesday.
In her words “My beloved aunt, MumNcane who many of you know as Gee Six Five, is no more. She displayed leadership throughout her life, was the epitome of fearlessness and inspired many with her single Obani Labantu. Mthiya, Shandu kaNdaba, Sontshikazi. RIP Gee Six Five,” she posted this in a short statement on her twitter social media platform.
Months before her death ‘Gee six five’ had become the internet’s sweetheart as her new single became a fan favorite, with her newly acquired fans describing it as a “December hit”
For Olpha Selepe , age should not hold you back from reaching for your dreams. She became a master’s degree holder at 63 and had only just started pursuing music. She depicted a life of leadership as a school teacher, who became a school principal before retiring.
While training at a teacher’s college, her love for music began and increased as she became a highly decorated choir conductor, performing at various competitions.
She passed away in Durban where she was self – isolating under the watch of family members since being positively diagnosed for COVID-19.
