SS Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has tested positive for COVID-19 on his return to Italy, the club has announced.
Napoli in a statement said Osimhen returned positive after a trip abroad.
The striker, who nursed a shoulder injury for more than one month was scheduled to return to action against Cagliari. He picked up the injury during Nigeria’s 4-4 draw against Sierra Leone in an African Cup of Nations qualifiers game.
“The club can confirm that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for COVID-19 following his return to Italy. Osimhen is currently asymptomatic and has not come into contact with the rest of the squad.”
Osimhen has had an impressive start to life in Italy with Gennaro Gattuso hailing him for the passion he has brought into the team.
The former Lille forward will miss at least one game as he recovers from the virus.
He joined the Partenopei in a bumper deal in the summer of 2020, and has been tipped to shine greatly in Naples.
