A thumping shot by Wilfred Ndidi opened the channel for Leicester City as Chelsea continued their poor form, which has now lasted weeks.
Leicester looked like the better team from the blast of the whistle, as they showed greater desire to get the maximum points.
Ndidi’s finish, his first in 16 months and third against Chelsea, was helped by the upright, leaving Senegalese goalkeeper, Mendy rooted to the spot.
The former Rennes goalkeeper who had a sizzling life to start with the Blues is now struggling for motivation, like the rest of the team, as shown in his reaction after being left grounded by Ndidi’s effort.
James Maddison added a second in the first half of the encounter to seal Chelsea’s loss as the Blues failed to deal with a long ball floated by Marc Albrighton. While the Foxes came out vicious in the second half, they couldn’t extend the lead against the struggling visitors, who have now lost five games in their last eight.
“The players know they were beaten by a better team tonight. A team we competed with until the end last season and that we are points behind,” Chelsea coach, Frank Lampard said in his post-match reaction.
“The general theme of our performance was slower, sluggish, lacking in desire to run. When a team is confident, they look like Leicester or we were a month ago.
“I wouldn’t say they’re letting me down, but there are players who are not playing as well as they should be.”
Nigerian international, Kelechi Iheanacho was subbed on in the game two minutes to the end of the encounter as Leicester sealed their place on top of the log with 38 points after 19 rounds of matches.
The Foxes have an average of two points per game, which is a good return in a season that has seen more wobbly runs than many others in the modern history of the Premier League.
