There is tension in the air in Maiduguri, Northeast Nigeria as multiple explosions and gunshots have rocked the Borno State capital.
Explosions were heard the Gomari and Mairi area of the state as people ran for their lives. Mairi is a students’ village near the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).
Earlier today, the military were said to have deployed trucks to an area called Layin Bori where worshippers are feared to have been killed by assailants.
The Students leadership of UNIMAID asked students to stay indoors while the attack on the surrounding area lasted.
A University gist Twitter handle also warned students to stay indoors as the attack went on.
The Nigerian Army, which had released armed trucks to protect locals in the mosque that was attacked, is yet to release an official statement on the incident.
The identity of the attackers is also yet to be known.
