Barely twenty-four hours to the delivery of its share of COVAX’s vaccines, Cameroon has suspended the use of AstraZeneca vaccines.
COVAX facility has made COVID-19 vaccines available in many African countries and Cameroon was expecting to take delivery of its first batch of doses on Saturday, March 20th.
The nation’s Ministry of Health made the announcement on Thursday while noting the suspension of the vaccine, just before its arrival, was for prudence and precaution.
While several nations have suspended the use of the vaccine, other nations, particularly in the E.U have resumed the administration of the vaccine to their population.
While a study found that the AstraZeneca vaccine led to blood clotting, the company was quick to point out that that is not an exclusive side effect with the vaccine. The Health commissions of the E.U and the Africa Centre for Disease Control have reiterated that the vaccine can be continued because its benefits outweigh the risks involved.
