‘NIGERIA REMAINS INDIVISIBLE’
Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari insists the unity of the country is not up for debate.
President Buhari made this assertion at an online colloquium held to mark the 69th birthday of Bola Tinubu the leader of the All Progressives Congress, Nigeria’s ruling party.
Buhari cautioned against calls for secession by some sections of the country, recalling that such attempts from over 54 years ago resulted in a bloody and devastating civil war for the country.
COVID-19 RWANDA
Rwanda has announced a review to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions set to take effect on March 30.
Movements are prohibited between 9pm and 4am, and all businesses must close by 8pm.
But movements between Kigali, other provinces and between districts of the country will continue, while they will resume to and from Bugesera, Nyanza and Gisagara.
In the Southern province districts of Ruhango, Nyanza, Huye, Gisagara, Nyaruguru and Nyamagabe, movements are however prohibited between 7pm to 4am.
COVID-19 VACCINE SOUTH AFRICA 00:28 +2:00
South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and Deputy President, David Mabuza have arrived at the pharmaceutical giant Aspen in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape.
Both men were accompanied by other senior government officials.
The visit focused on the process of producing the COVID-19 vaccine at the sterile manufacturing facility.
Aspen Pharmacare collaborated with Johnson & Johnson to establish the capacity required for the manufacturing of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, at Aspen’s facility.
COVID-19 ETHIOPIA
Ethiopia has also enforced strict coronavirus measures, banning travelers with COVID-19 positive status from entering the country for an indefinite time.
The Health Ministry says the new measures are introduced as the country struggles with an “alarming” increase in the number of cases.
Currently, travelers known to be positive for coronavirus will not be allowed to enter Ethiopia. Earlier, they would have had to self-isolate or quarantine.
The law enforcement bodies will tighten monitoring and the police have been empowered to arrest anyone without a mask or any group of people making physical contact.
EBOLA VACCINATIONS SPREAD FARTHER INTO GUINEA
Away frrom Covid-19, more than 4000 people have so far been vaccinated against Ebola in Guinea. About half of them are medical workers according to the World Health Organization.
Guinea began its vaccination campaign on February 22 in N’Zerekore region, the epicentre of the outbreak, after receiving doses of the Merck vaccine.
The global health agency added that it has personnel who are supporting surveillance, vaccination of high-risk people and ensuring community engagement.
EVER GIVEN REFLOATS
The giant container ship that blocked the Suez Canal for nearly a week has finally been freed, after a massive salvage operation using tug boats.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has hailed the operation to free the Ever Given, which had been wedged in the Canal, creating a logjam in the key shipping route.
It Is not immediately clear when full traffic could resume in the canal.
An international journalist shared a video of the 400-meter-long ship sailing since it got stuck last week.

GEORGE FLOYD MURDER SUSPECT TRIAL BEGINS
The trial of a former Minneapolis police officer charged in George Floyd’s death is underway.
The judge briefed the jurors on their duties ahead of opening statements Monday in the case that sparked waves of outrage against injustice across the U.S. and beyond after bystander video showed Police officer Derek Chauvin press his knee to Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes.
Legal experts say they expect prosecutors to play the video to the jury early on to remind jurors of what is at the heart of their case.
Floyd, a 46 year-old gentleman and father of one, was declared dead after white officer Chauvin, pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck for about nine minutes.
Chauvin, 45, is charged with unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.
