Suspected militants have killed at least 23 civilians near Beni in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The villagers were attacked in an overnight raid according to the provincial governor’s statement. The actual number of casualties is still provisional as more bodies are being searched for in Manyama-Moliso, North Kivu.
Local investigators have pointed fingers at terror group, Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) as perpetrators of the attack.
ADF has terrorised eastern DRC for decades and were recently identified as a terrorist organisation after connections were established with Al-Qaeda.
The terror group has constantly attacked civilians in North Kivu region with many leaving the area for safer zones over insecurity.
In the latest attack on the village, locals noted the Congolese military killed two assailants as they tried to fight back.
The world is battling terrorism on several fronts with the Congo attack in Africa just one of the many significant attacks in the past one week.
