Nigeria’s drug law enforcement agency, NDLEA has intercepted a drug trafficker at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and seized heroin worth N564 million.
The trafficker named Goodluck Igbineweka Odeh was arrested with 2kg of heroin concealed in the lining at the bottom of his suitcase.
The 40-year old Goodluck was apprehended at the departure lounge of the airport where he tried to connect Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia for an onward move to Italy.
Speaking to NDLEA, Goodluck confessed he works as a labourer in Italy and earns €50 a day. He moved to Italy after working briefly in Libya.
He denied knowledge of the drugs in his bag, stating he purchased the bag from a popular Lagos market. On interrogation, he revealed that he came to Nigeria to purchase foodstuffs from Edo State, Southern Nigeria to sell in Italy and had no idea how the drugs got into his bag.
Chairman of the NDLEA, Buba Marwa has reiterated that the new NDLEA will be stiffer and stronger in operations than ever known and will fish out illicit drug peddlers wherever they are.
