Amnesty International has condemned the Egyptian authorities’ in what it describes as a “crackdown on freedom of expression and detention of those who declare their solidarity with Palestine.”
In a tweet, the organization noted “#Egypt, while denouncing Israel’s attack on #Gaza, authorities maintain a stranglehold on #FreedomofExpression & assembly. They detained a man for raising the #Palestinian flag & a doctor for tweeting about past solidarity protests.”
The organisation criticized the Egyptian government for their continued, unjust detention of Palestinian activist Rami Shaath on bogus charges, demanding his release and the release of all those detained for peacefully supporting Palestinian rights.
