Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari says he has no plans to run for third term as is being insinuated in hushed tones by some Nigerians.
Buhari on Tuesday received the National Chairman of Nigeria’s Electoral Commission (INEC) who was on a debrief mission to the President on the extent of damage done to INEC office following the rise in number of attacks in the South-East.
The President in a strongly-worded statement soon after he was briefed, announced that he will give INEC the support it needs to ensure better security.
Buhari says there will be no excuses for failure after the support. He also restated his readiness to leave office after the expiration of his tenure.
The President assured INEC his government “will make available to them everything they need to operate efficiently, so that no one will say we don’t want to go, or that we want a third term. There will be no excuse for failure. We will meet all of INEC’s demands.”
Prof. Yakubu during his debrief session disclosed that INEC has recorded at least 42 attacks since the last general elections.
