A tank explosion in a domestic gas centre at Ladipo area of Mushin, Lagos State has claimed the lives of many.
Many others secured various degree of injuries in an incident said to have occurred around 9am on Tuesday.
Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Ibrahim Farinloye explained that the LPG domestic retailing centre located at Ojekunke Street, Ladipo Spare part market, area exploded suddenly.
“So far, four adults comprising of three male and one female (mama Funmi) were recovered dead while the only infant rescued alive died before getting to hospital…”
The tank fire has been put out already and recovery of bodies ongoing.
State Fire Service, Police Disaster Management Unit, NEMA and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are on rescue operations.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service also announced that it is attending to the situation.
In a statement, the agency said on arrival at the scene, it was discovered that it is an open space used for several activities including a bar, mechanic workshop, spare parts sale and gas shop amongst others while housing a makeshift structure.
Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service Margaret Adeseye said the place has been cordoned off to prevent secondary incident.
She said investigation to establish the cause of the incident is ongoing and further discovery will be made public.
