Libya’s oil output has dropped by about 200,000 barrels per day after the closure of a leaking pipeline.
Libya’s state-owned National Oil Corporation said, late Saturday, that the main pipeline linking the eastern Samah and Dhuhra fields to the country’s biggest export terminal, Es Sider, will be shut for corrective maintenance.
Libya’s oil production slumped to 780,000 barrels per day after maintenance work on a pipeline shut down 200,000 bpd output this week, adding to outages due to blockades at four oilfields since the end of December.
It said the pipe will be running again in a week. In 2021, Libya pumped an average of 1.2 million barrels a day.
Libya’s oil production, a vital source of revenue for the North African country, has been impacted by a decade of conflict and political chaos.
